survived the blow job

shouldn't be making light when some people suffered extensive damage and loss to homes, but i've just finished up (kind of) a shift that started at about 5am yesterday and included a 2-hour 2:30-4:30am nap on a very hard floor. (noticed then that i've lost all my padding!)
We were again spared here in Nassau. Had tropical storm force conditions from yesterday evening straight through to now.... Work was hard - we were experiencing the storm, chasing the storm (reporting on the southern islands) and staying ahead of the storm (looking at how northern islands were prepping)... but we got so many really nice comments from people who were counting on our updates and that made it easier and worth doing. Plus we have a great skeleton crew that stayed the course and got the job done.
Irene sped up so we were able to get out this evening rather than spend a second night there thank goodness. I came to my parents' house because I knew all the roads were relatively clear to get here and hadn't heard whether i'd have major obstacles trying to get out to my house. and the friends who were taking care of the house and sylvia had planned on 2 nights anyway - win win again :)
Betsy the Band DOES NOT LIKE hurricanes. In addition to being tight because of all this stress, exhaustion and the lower barometric pressure, my period decided it would be a good time to come yesterday! I've pb'd (sometimes poltergeist style) pretty much everything i tried to eat the past 3 days..... ugh.... this afternoon i managed to get down and keep down the cheese mixture from a sandwich triangle..... that's it. had all kinds of food to ride out the storm and managed to eat none of it!

Anyway, I'm still having to update the website but need a shower desperately. and then i think bed will be coming soon.

thanks so much for all the kind messages. I really appreciate them. And to whoever is next on Irene's hit list - ALL THE BEST!

Hurricane Irene

Hi ladies

I've been bad again and need a good old spanking when some of us meet up at BooBs in a few weeks (can you believe that?!?!?!?!)

Am super busy right now as Hurricane Irene is making her approach. Thanks to those who have sent messages of well wishes... they're really appreciated. We here in Nassau are pretty much as prepared as we can be. My house is ready - just waiting on Dad to come up and clamp down the last of the shutters (i can't figure them out for the life of me!)

I'm actually headed into work for the next couple of days (weather probably won't be good enough for us to venture home until Friday morning I'm thinking....). I have some friends who are in a rental house in a low-lying area staying here and dog and house sitting while I work. It's a win win - I have peace of mind knowing Sylvia is taken care of and they have a safe house with a generator... because we are CONFIDENT the power will be going off!

Right now the weather here in Nassau is GORGEOUS... The calm before the storm is always amazing. Bright. sunny skies, cool constant breeze. Very deeptive. If you're watching the news and hear that the bahamas is getting battered, that could be confusing.... it's a lot of islands spread out over hundreds and hundreds of miles so although Inagua, Mayaguana and Acklins are getting hammered, we're still waiting.

Looks like Irene will pass to the east of us which is a blessing - we really don't need a direct hit... but we're still in for a rough ride I imagine.

My band is messing with me something firerce. I think i'm stressed and anxious about the storm so it's tightened up and I'm wondering if it will tighten even more if the atmospheric pressure drops as the storm passes?

I've got all sorts of food options to take in to the radio station for the next couple of days so hopefully things will go down and allow me to eat and nourish myself.

If anyone else is in this storm's path (although they don't seem to have any clue yet where on the east coast it will end up) be safe and do all you can. As they say, prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

Love n Hugs
